My interest in family stories began when I read a book written by my great aunt. She was in her eighties when I knew her, and I was fascinated to read about her younger life when, after the Second World War ended, she finally followed her dreams and bought a derelict smallholding. She grew crops and kept chickens, sheep and a goat but just two years later a debilitating illness forced her to give up the farm. She continued her story with entertaining tales of medical treatment in the 1940s and the wonders of a new electric blanket which brought great comfort in a house heated only by a coal fire.
I set up Family Stories in 2015, together with my colleague and friend of 30 years, Caroline Putus. I already had many years’ experience of professional writing and print production for clients including East of England Tourism, Thomson and Morgan, Pearson, Cambridgeshire County Council and North Norfolk District Council. I’m interested in people, family history and local stories, and these skills and interests all come together in Family Stories.
I’m a keen and knowledgeable gardener, taking great pleasure from my own lovely garden, and I love to read. I also enjoy Scottish and Playford dancing. I live in Ipswich with my husband, son and two cats.
